Forte dei Marmi has become, over the last hundred years, a popular tourist destination known the world over. It is also the playground of the rich and famous with many nobles, diplomats, businessmen, artists and celebrities having beautiful villas hidden amongst the pinewoods along the coast. It is centred around a sixteenth century wharf built for the loading of the famous Apuan marble and has, in the town centre an eighteenth century fort built by Leopold I.
Forte dei Marmi is not just a beautiful coastal town though, it is also ideally placed for excursions, being close to the Apuan Alps where hiking and climbing at all levels is possible. Lucca and Pisa are approximately 30 km, while Livorno is 50 km., Florence 88 km and Siena, Bologna and Genoa all about 110 km distance.
From Forte dei Marmi the 18 hole, Versilia Golf Club of Pietrasanta and the Cosmopolitan Golf & Country Club are just a short drive, and there is also the 9 hole Golf Club Tirrenia close at hand. The Apuan Alps are also just a short drive away.
Having 2 airports, Pisa and Florence, and two major ports, Livorno and Genoa, close at hand means it is easy to reach from anywhere in the world.
