Sorano is an ancient Etruscan hill town, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. It is about 90km from Grossetto, 100km from Siena, 18km from Acquapendente and about 30km from Viterbo.
The town today is a typical of the fortified town in the area, with the massive walls that encompass it and elegant Renaissance architecture. There is also a splendid fortress built by the Orsini family. The surrounding area is rich in archaelogical heritage, with the "Citta del Tufo" containing interesting Etruscan sites and the nearby Rocca di Vitozza with its famous cliff settlements.
