Bagnoregio, birthplace of St. Bonaventura, is found on the edge of the ‘calanchi’ connected to the picturesque medieval village of Cività di Bagnoregio by a long footbridge. The first settlements can be traced back to Etruscan times. It was a thriving medieval walled town, now only the main entrance, Porta Albana, remains standing, but the town centre is still typical of the era and you can visit the chapel of St. Bonaventura and the cathedral, which in 1606 was dedicated to St. Nicholas. Bagnoregio is in easy reach of lake Bolseno, Montefiascone, Viterbo and Orvieto. The A1 motorway is about 15 minutes away making trips to both Rome and Florence possible in about 90 minutes.
